I have Prime95 running on two different computers but one I can only run a few months out of the year. Is there any way I can tell that computer to finish the assignments it currently has but not receive any new assignments until I tell it to?
It is running Windows64,Prime95,v28.5,build 2 |

Go to the Advanced menu and select "Quit GIMPS". (Note: This does not affect your registration with GIMPS.) You are given a choice of immediately quitting, or doing so after the current assignment is finished. The latter is the same as putting the line "NoMoreWork=1" (no quotes) in Prime.txt. Resetting this to "0" will let the P95 instance start getting work again.

Yes, go to the menu and select "quit gimps". When asked, say "finish the current assignment". The name "quit gimps" is improper, what the program does is just that: ist stops asking for new assignments. But there is not "quitting" like in deleting the user, computer, or so. This was quite confusing for me too, years ago when I started.
Alternatively, you can exit P95, from the "tools/exit" menu (do not click the red x in the corner, this does not stop p95, but only hides it from view!), then using your favorite text editor (like Notepad), add a text line into prime.txt, which says "NoMoreWork=1". Or if you already have "NoMoreWork=0", modify 0 into 1, save the file and restart p95. The two things are equivalent (what the menu stuff is doing: it adds this line into the prime.txt file itself). Edit: crosspost, sorry Kieren, I had this window open since morning, but no time to reply due to busy time at job, and I didn't refresh before writing the paragraphs above. I will let it there, maybe it brings more light. Last fiddled with by LaurV on 2016-08-10 at 03:25 |

LaurV: Your answer has far more detail than mine, and is more helpful to new users.
