The mersenne.org ftp site contains an UNTESTED v25 NT service version for both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows. Please test it and let me know if it works. The files are winnt258.zip and winnt258_64.zip.

I just tried the x64 version on Vista64 and it failed to work. It installed the service fine, but then starting it fails. From the command line:
Code:
D:\Prime95>net start ntprimeservice The Prime Service service is starting. The Prime Service service could not be started. The service did not report an error. More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 3534. |

I tried the 32bit version on Vista 32bit and I'm getting the same error message as James Heinrich. I tried setting the "Logon" tab as "interact with desktop" and also used my user account and password instead of SYSTEM, but nothing seemed to work.
I'm not sure if the DNETC (www.distributed.net) source code is still available, but their latest client works as as service in both 32bit and 64bit Vista. |

I just tried the 32bit version on Windows XP 32bit and it no longer works either. So it seems it is broken on all Windows OS now.
Same error as in Vista. |

Whoops -- I tested it about 3 hours ago and it worked fine... I forgot to post here to that effect.
![]() Well, worked fine as in it started up and appeared to be working. I didn't leave it running as a service long enough for it to do much useful work. Anything in particular we should test for? x64 version is the one I tested, I did not try the 32bit version. |
