I've been experimenting with the Windows 8 Developer Preview -- put Prime95 on it, naturally -- but now I find that the function to merge the results from that PC in Windows 8 to its previous Windows 7 results, doesn't work.
It's a dual-core machine, and I've somehow ended up with four listings for it. Should I try merging just two at a time? Doing all four at once seems to take forever to do anything, and eventually ends up giving me a mostly blank page (except for the login boxes and the logout button); I have to log out in order to see any other options. And when I do log back in and return to the CPUs, it still shows four listings for the one PC. The odd thing is that I merged the results for the same CPU about a month ago (there were only two listings then), and it seemed to work fine. I do go back and forth between Win7 and Win8, with Prime95 running on whichever OS I'm using at the time. Please advise. I'm going to be installing the Windows 8 Consumer Preview, and I don't want to end up with even more listings for the same machine!! Rodrigo Last fiddled with by Rodrigo on 2012-02-29 at 07:17 |

I was having the same trouble earlier today, with more or less the same symptoms. I have a copy doing LMH on a flashdrive for when I'm in a lab somewhere, and obviously the hardware changes whenever I go somewhere different. (HardwareUID=1 in prime.txt does not seem to have done anything.) The merge function worked up until today, when it would sit around loading for a while, and then stop with only the title and a few lines of the left side menu. That we're both getting the same symptoms seems to indicate a PrimeNet problem, i.e. a relatively easily fixable one.

I have the same problem. I've been trying to merge three duplicate CPUs since yesterday and there's no way: it just hangs there leaving an almost empty page.
It already happened once a few months ago, and it got fixed after a few days: let's hope it will be fixed this time as well. |

Thanks guys -- it's a relief to know that at least it's not my machine. And the more people report it, the better the chances that it'll get fixed.

A while back George W. posted instructions to overcome merge problems in some situations. I don't remember specifics, but a search would turn it up.

I remember that as well and tried searching the forum for "merge checked cpu" but got nothing except a thread from Feb 2011 which went unreplied to, sadly.

Thanks, I'll remember that for next time.
For those of us who are having issues now, note that that override is for a specific error, and that at the moment we should not be trying to use this method. If A is duplicated to B, but PrimeNet talks to A again after talking to B, it will refuse the merge, which is what the override is for (note that it's a "date" override). We aren't getting a date error, we're just timing out. If this isn't fixed in a week or so, then we should try the override, except it probably still won't work. (Rodrigo, this might be the case if you keep switching back and forth, but for me and Kaboom this is definitely not the issue.) |

Just for the record, the merge function worked again yesterday.
