GIMPS - Merge CPUs through mersenne.org

Hi.

I'm trying to merge my computers (or "CPUs") on the mersenne.org webpage, but it just times out. Is this a known issue? The webpages seem kind of slow on all stuff that accesses the DB...

Are you trying to do it in the first 10 minutes or so of the hour? The web pages are always slow (i.e. unusable) at such times due to hourly database refresh jobs.

although it might seem weird what sounds cool to me would be to merge all of one type of CPU like it was one machine and then go after each exponent. might work faster ?

No, I've been trying at different times of day and different times of hour. It gives me no error message or anything, the webpage just stops loading and the CPUs are not merged.

The merge feature is not as robust as one would like. I have given up trying to merge some of my listed systems. The probability of a successful merge appears to be inversely proportional to the number of results returned by the computers involved.

However, from time to time there is an unexplained speedup in the database (I assume from periodic maintenance/re-indexing) and there is a much higher chance of success at those times.

All I can say is that I merged two just a few days ago and it worked fine.
Mind you neither had many results or assignments.

So maybe it is simply, as suggested:
- lots of records to merge
AND/OR
- database in need of maintenance

my browser can act like crap and it looks loaded to me took me about 1 minute
