Source file could not be read

I attempted to download the 64-bit Windows prime program (Windows 7/Vista/XP/2008 64-bit: Download p64v266.zip (3.8MB), version 26.6, last updated April 8, 2011) several times, each time getting the error that the file could not be saved because the source file could not be read.
I successfully downloaded the 32-bit version using the same technique, so something must be amiss on your server.

The server is very busy generating large reports for the first 6-8 minutes of each clock hour. Avoid those times, because it often responds slowly or not at all to requests, or else will timeout in the midst of a response, during those times.

I just downloaded that file successfully on a 45k dialup line.

Last night I also was having problems with the server, although of a different sort. Whenever I tried downloading the 27.3 source, I'd get a few MB and then it would just stop, no data transfer. Also, getting an error about "couldn't read source" doesn't sound like a traffic issue.

@OP: The link above this post is a mirror hosted by this forum. In general you'll have more luck downloading from there. (The only reason I tried my own download from mersenne.org last night is because it was a newly released test version that hadn't been posted to the mirror yet.)

The necessary bandwidth of GIMPS is so awesome, lol. You could probably successfully run GIMPS on 1000s of computers with that same phone line if you sneakernetted updates after the initital download.

I know Prime95(sorry for forgetting your name, George something I think. The name Reynolds comes up, but that's a cowboy-type friend I used to know) does this as a volunteer, but I'd be just as happy if he'd either make an integer-based version of Prime95 for graphics cards or optimize what exists now for AMD cpus. If he'd do both, I'd be ecstatic.

And, yes, I know it's the wrong thread and off-topic, sorry.
