The current discussion over in the WTF news stories made me think about funny stories in connection with money.
The funniest that happened to me recently was a couple of years ago. I work the closing shift at a small grocery store and was closing this particular night. About 10 minutes after we closed the doors, a customer that had checked out just before closing knocked on the window and said that the $20 bill we gave her in change was refused at the Starbucks down the street. The reason given was that it didn't have a couple of the security features present. Looking at it, I realized that since it was old enough, of course it didn't have the watermark or the security thread....shaking my head, I gave her another one. |

I once found a dollar bill in my pocket that had, inscribed in pen around the border, "mark here if you think N'Sync is the most awesome band ever / started in Baltimore". There were six stencils penned in after it.

Money money money
...very funny. In a rich man's world. In 1972 I shared a house with the German assistante at the school we were teaching at. She explained to me why foreigners found the word "funny" difficult, and not just the haha/peculiar thing: "funny" appears to be an adjective formed from "fun" i.e. "funny" = "funlike". I am 99% certain that Abba meant money was fun. Doesn't rhyme so well though. David Last fiddled with by davieddy on 2010-12-10 at 13:58 |

The Floyd apparently in 13/pi time or something. Which is why I could never play it. Impossible to dance to David, so don't try. Back on topic. Years ago my dad went into ye olde Building Society to withdraw some cash. When the cashier asked what denomination he wanted, he replied "Sovereigns." and there's more I once balanced 39 10p pieces on my elbow and caught them in the same hand. Equalled the world record at the time. (The 1970's!) Don't try it near your plasma TV. Last fiddled with by Flatlander on 2010-12-10 at 14:33 |

"Dark Side of the Moon". OK so it's time signature is 7/4. If you were brought up on Dave Brubeck's "Take 5" it's a piece of piss. David |

when it came to rhythm. Ginger Baker collected some superb stuff from Africa after Cream split up. A year or so back I found myself faced with a night on the tiles in central London. (I hear cries of "surely not") for reasons I can't now remember. (you sound aghast). About 2 a.m. I found myself at Piccadily circus. Assembled on window ledges was a moveable feast (substitution was definitely allowed) of ~20 drummers. Now you might think this would be a recipe for White Noise (or should that be Black Noise?), but no. One "movement" would last typically for half an hour. Not only did all the participants seem to know exactly what to bang and when, the whole pieces of music evolved steadily to a most satisfying conclusion. Does this happen every night? I'm just grateful to have witnessed it. David Last fiddled with by davieddy on 2010-12-10 at 15:34 |

Specially "We're Goin' Wrong". PS Sod all this editing crap around here. I was trying to strike out the "d" in "loved", meaning I still do:) And Davar55 thought my choice of music a bit "morose" David Last fiddled with by davieddy on 2010-12-11 at 04:51 |
