[SNARK]Of course, that line is really curved in at least one dimension.[/SNARK] (Imagine tongue flipping smiley here. I miss the old, plain stuck-out-tongue version.)

Any differential geometer will automatically translate the colloquial "straight line" into the technical term "geodesic".

Can't one find an infinite geodesic course? Like going all around the globe, pass between Alaska and Russia and somewhere close to Antarctica in south? (sorry if it sounds stupid, I don't have a globe in hand now, this might not be possible, as I remember from some movies of my childhood, the Antarctica goes quite north towards the Tierra Fuego and Cabos de Hornos...)

Nope. In spherical geometry geodesics have finite length.

Given some recent discussions, I could not resist stating the obvious. Besides, not even LaurV's Paintbrush (destined to take the place of Occam's Razor in your mythology! © F.Z.) can weasel its way through this problem.

Hehe, is it so? anyhow you know exactly what I wanted to say. If no continents, one could go around and around for ever.

In ROYGBIV (the colors of the rainbow) what defines indigo?
(It's the least "common" color.)

The fact that ROYGBV and ROYGBP (purple) are unpronounceable.

Yes, that was precisely my intent :)

I know only that there's a book about this that someone once recommended I read. But, I don't remember the reason.

Каждый охотник желает знать где сидит фазан.
