loss of moderator access to GIMPS Wiki forum

I've noticed that Fetofs and myself no longer have moderator access to the GIMPS Wiki forum (in other words, "plutoed"). Was there any reason for this change?

We have a chart that shows moderator activity, which is very cool because it is color-coded and stuff, so it is really simple. If a moderator doesn't do anything or fails to log in for a period of time consistently, then we nuke their moderator status.

All this is just a precaution against hackers. The fewer moderator accounts we have the more secure the forum is. This way the terrorists cannot win.

Unfortunately, the real Wiki hasn't had anything added or edited in ages. If something real strange happened, like something got added or edited, we'd know, because we fruitlessly check it every morning.

Plus, the added moderator pay was starting to cut into our profits.

We've been kind of transitioning from the individual moderator mindset to the super moderator mindset. As the forum grows there is less of a need for most sub forums to have a moderator and more of a need for an omniscient and omnipotent super moderator team that can fix things anywhere at anytime.

The small projects need individual moderators but in reality we could just create a group that has read/write/edit access to that sub forum and assign people to that. It would probably be much simpler, too.

Plus, once you toss the moderator title in the mix the salary negotiations begin and you know how that turns out…

It appears that I still have administrator privileges on MersenneWiki, and my last contribution was on May 7th. It also appears that nobody contributed to the wiki the last 30 days.

The wiki itself has alpertron, fetofs and ixfd64 assigned for sysop access. We're not even sure what a sysop can do but the title sure sounds impressive.

Now all we need are editors.

A hit counts as any page or image request, and we do have a lot of images. We could generate a more advanced report but we're lazy.

However, these numbers indicate that someone, somewhere is reading something.
