This article appeared on reddit several days ago, the general consensus was that the most recent paper makes no true progress towards solving it -- it's "just" yet another reformulation in terms of Hamiltonians with certain kinds of eigenvalues. The general concept has been around for decades, if not the particular details of the application of the general concept in the most recent paper.
