Car Dashcams Capture Possible Meteorite Above Russia:
Quote:
Several car dashcams captured video showing a bright blue and red flashing object streaming through the sky above the city of Murmansk shortly after 2 a.m. Russian time on Saturday. Officials have neither confirmed nor denied the object is a meteorite, according to Russia Today.
Not quite as exciting as the last one, but still, what are the odds?

to be honest, I have some doubt this one is real. There is only 2 differrent dashcam video availlable.

Aren't the two events (last year's explosion in Chelyabinsk which caused hundreds of injuries, and this apparent fireball seen from the Murmansk area) completely different in character? That is, apart from the observations being thousands of kilometres distant from each other despite technically being in the same country!

The first was rare because the object exploded close to the ground and above a populated area, thereby causing local devastation. The second - if it is a fireball caused by a meteroid burning up high in the atmosphere - occurs frequently and is very often unobserved, or observed by only a few, and rarely recorded on film.

I see no reason why this new event should not be a meteroid fireball captured by a very small number of car dashcams. It is fortunate that anyone observed and recorded it at all.

I just find strange that, close to a city of 300 k habitant, "we" only have 2 dashcam video, no security cam footage, and no official answer (from russian authority) yet.
