50 years ago, on March 15, 1972, Francis Ford Coppola's "The Godfather" opened to rave reviews.
Personally, it is like a black hole for my attention. Whenever I'm channel surfing around and I run across it,
I cannot escape its gravity field and I must watch it.

60 years ago, the first "real" video game debuted.

In April, 1962 the video game "Spacewar" was developed. There is some disagreement wrt what is a video game,
but Spacewar was the first that had all the bases covered.

A little late but ...

50 years ago on February 21, 1972, President Richard Nixon landed in the people's Republic of China aboard Air Force One. This dramatically changed the geopolitical map forever.
The trip lasted one week and featured a brief meeting with Mao. Most of the meetings involved Chinese premier Zhou Enlai.
Soon thereafter, many trade delegations from American Corporations started to visit China to try to negotiate business deals.

On a personal note, someone I know, who worked for John Deere, went on one of those visits. John Deere saw an opportunity to sell its trademark farm equipment to China which had a vast agricultural economy in order to feed its enormous population.
When he returned, he was totally disillusioned. He said they don't want to buy any of our manufactured goods at all. They just wanted 2 things: licenses to copy and manufacture the goods themselves and the raw materials to do that.

41 years ago, Xerox introduced the Star/8010 system.

It was based on the Xerox Alto, which was not sold but used internally and by a few universities.

It introduced many of the technologies that are taken for granted today such as mice, networked work stations,
and a Graphic User Interface.
This is the system that Steve Jobs copied to produce Apple's GUI bases systems.

It was a complete dud commercially, primarily because Xerox did not know how to market it and it was fairly pricey.
