I'm running a brandnew AMD Athlon 64 3200 with 2*512 MB RAM (again...).
Until now I couldn't find *ANY* benchmark, burn-in test, memtest prog that would detect any flaws.
Old versions of Prime run fine for eterneties, 237 and 238 (my old version is so old it only offers one torture test, no choosing) will run fine as long as I don't start a blend test. Now I'm glad to see I'm not alone :)
Well 238 does not change anything for me. Starting the blend test will result in Prime95 closing down within half a second... Task Manager shows a mem usage peak at the time the prog gets started, and drops back to normal *immediately* whereas CPUload does not rise at all (or <5% max).

Just tell me it's a software flaw... so I'll be a happy man ;)

It's a problem located between screen and chair...
Maybe u just add some msg that Blendtest *WILL NOT RUN* without a pagefile Even with 1GB RAM, setting it to 0MB size *WILL* crash the blendtest.
Now... just tell me the test will run fine for a day... so I'll stay happy

FYI, the correct term is PEBCAK (or PEBKAC). "Problem Exists Between Chair And Keyboard" It's an old IBM term, like FUD. ;)

Are you saying that if you go to torture test and choose "Custom" and "0 MB" and if you have no pagefile, then you will get an immediate crash in version 23.8?

No :)

When setting the system pagefile (Control Panel - System - Advanced - Performance - Settings - Advanced - Virtual Memory - Change - No paging file) to 0 MB, the Blend test (not custom, but I can try that tonight) will lead to an immediate shutdown of Prime95.
As I guess there are only very few ppl doing this, there is no big need for a fix :) Maybe u add a little note like: "System pagefile = 0, test will exit" so the few concerned know that it's their own fault :)

With a pagefile of 2MB everything seems to run smooth.

Custom - 0MB runs fine without a pagefile.
Actually, it runs fine up to about 800MB. I guess the immediate exiting is simply due to not enough RAM being free and no special msg being implemented to tell the user about the reason:)

I just built a new machine Asus P4P800 2.8 gig 1024MB ram and as usual I installed Prime95 as the first program to check for stability. Of course I downloaded the latest official version and BLAM Prime95 crashes every time it hits the 20K FFT. Luckily I read all the messages on the forums and a little voice in the back of my head remembered something about large amounts of ram and certain FFT size crashing Prime95. Unfortunately it took a couple of heart stopping hours before that little voice grew loud enough to hear. Given the popularity of 2 X 512 MB configurations in new system builds I believe it is important 23.8 become official ASAP.

WARNING Gratuitous Banna Dance Ahead!
