Ton of spam posts

Is the large number of spam posts I see today a result of a forum exploit? IIRC new user posts go into a moderation queue...

Have you reported (triangle with exclamation mark at bottom of left margin of post) all you've seen as spam?

I'm reporting them at 1/minute (forum limit).

but it looks like someone's already on these. At least one has disappeared. And now another. Poof!

I saw spams from two users : the already reported opqr191 but also from mnop338.

In order for the spam to appear, one post must have been approved by one of us mods. (And no, it wasn't me.)

There was just one by nikedunks - so that post must have been approved. Mike, has the post approval system gone down?

I will try to keep the spam away in the forum I can.

IMO, any user who registers with a username like "abcd123" should be banned immediately.

No, it has to be four consecutive letters followed by a random three-digit number.

Incidentally, when I had just pointed out that someone had registered as XYZZY, someone registered as 10metreh, but with the first "e" a different Unicode character to the normal "e".

It's probably my fault.

There were an awful lot of spam posts yesterday. Usually, I (and presumably the other mods) delete them one at a time. There is an option to delete posts as spam and delete all other post by the same user, but that option doesn't work (it simply leaves the other posts). So this time I tried to ban them first, then mass-delete queued posts via the moderator panel. Evidently I hit a wrong button somewhere, and approved them instead of deleting. My apologies.

No big deal, as long as the spam wasn't there because of some kind of unpatched attack on vBulletin.
