Actually, curtisc's results are a pretty close mirror of the error rate as a whole. His machines aren't overclocking or anything, which I suspect is the reason for some of the "always bad" systems out there, but I seem to recall looking at his machines and overall account in terms of bad/good, and they were pretty close to the overall average.

Of course his vast # of machines actually affects the average to a good degree, but it's still generally true.

Hello, say I wanted to help out in here from time to time, do I paste this into worktodo.txt,

 DoubleCheck=48160601,73,1
(this is just an example I pulled from the thread)

or do I need to go through manual assignments first?

That should be enough : make sure you stop Prime95 / mprime first (it is not necessary to exit the program, just stop it.)

After communicating with the server you will know if the workunit has been assigned to you or was already assigned to someone else.

Yes, if you add a line like that to your worktodo.txt, it will automatically grab an assignment for that exponent, generally within 24 hours or so, as long as it's actually available for assignment.

So you ought to check that exponent 48160601 is indeed available (in this example, obviously it isn't), and theoretically you need to change the "73" if necessary to match whatever is shown in the line that says: No factors to 2whatever. And you run the small risk that someone else might grab an assignment for that particular exponent before it gets assigned to you. Manual assignment avoids those risks.

If for whatever reason you want to do an exponent without getting an assignment (for instance if you're poaching a large exponent that was assigned to someone else years ago with zero progress), then you can modify the line to DoubleCheck=N/A,48160601,73,1

CurtisC was correct, this time: https://mersenne.org/M49835299

But I have double and triple checked several in the past where he was wrong.

 2018-11-27, 17:25 #813 GP2     Sep 2003 50368 Posts I have a few if anyone wants them: Code: DoubleCheck=47908411,73,1 DoubleCheck=47989541,73,1 DoubleCheck=48015377,73,1 DoubleCheck=52196689,73,1 DoubleCheck=57313577,73,1 DoubleCheck=57538903,73,1 But they're unexciting, in the sense that I'm very confident that my results are the correct ones. Check the 52M exponent especially before taking it, it might get automatically reassigned to the churn zone soon. I also have ten or so more exponents above 70M, but it's the same story.
