What is the GIMPS project good for, when some people have the equivalent of the IQ of a light bulb!
"All" is a tall order, the natural number line extending to infinity and all, but all known mersenne prime exponents are listed at https://www.mersenne.org/primes/ and elsewhere. It's becoming a fair approximation to "all below 108 exponent". (May have finished first test to 100 million by the end of 2020, and double checking to 100 million by 2035 or so.)

One of the things the GIMPS is good for is distracting those of us with an IQ approximating a midrange HPS bulb's wattage from the foibles of those of us with IQ's approximating ordinary two-electrode household incandescents' wattage. And the statistic that the lower wattage were produced in vastly greater quantities.

No, but every little bit helps... The post was accepted sometime last night.

And even with the small coverage received (so far, hopefully), we are starting to see some effects....

P.S. Does anyone know what the brief uptick at the end of September was caused by (I'm referring to the bottom graph)?

Sorry for my overreaction. The question is really not that stupid. However, I was too fussy to accept another interpretation.

It's probably because of the fact that I'm self not the brightest lamp in the hardware store.

I'm not sure about the level of sarcasm in these questions if any at all, but here are some answers:

http://mathworld.wolfram.com/MersennePrime.html
https://primes.utm.edu/mersenne/index.html

I'm not sure what the IQ level of "some" people have to do with GIMPS. They can do whatever they find interesting, and those of us who find math and primes and Mersenne Primes interesting can work on this project.

take the log base 20996011 ( roughly) of the current graph.

I use only 150W light bulbs, so I'm good.

Oh yeah, that involves me removing the "factoring effort" details. Done.

I think it is a fine thing and interesting to leave the history of a subsequently discovered Mersenne prime, as for example, https://www.mersenne.org/report_expo...exp_hi=&full=1
What I think should be cleaned off is the pointless TF or P-1 done and listed dated _AFTER_ the primality is discovered or confirmed or announced, on some Mersenne primes. (Along with failed primality tests, as were found in some cases.)
