Count the zeros in the iteration numbers. (6 vs 5) (Trips me up sometimes too, and that general readability issue for multidigit numbers is why many languages have adopted separator characters such as the comma or period or space.) http://upwritepress.com/_blog/Write_...arge_Numbers_/

Default getting started

It seems to me the "Other available freeware" section at the bottom of https://www.mersenne.org/download/ would benefit from an update. It would be good for new participants to become aware of the possibility of using gpus also in the search, as easily as possible. The current glucas link gets referred to another url which comes up empty.

I suggest updating the glucas link to https://sourceforge.net/projects/glucas/ and move the mention of glucas to the historical interest part. Also please add for current software a link to point to at least some of the gpu oriented software, perhaps by adding https://www.mersenneforum.org/showth...t=22450&page=4 or https://www.mersenneforum.org/showth...291#post488291 which I periodically independently update, or directly to the various links for gpu software, or to the mersenne.ca mirror site. There is a lot more software available now than prime95/mprime, Mlucas, and the very old apparently unmaintained glucas. The page https://www.mersenne.org/download/ as it exists now makes no mention of or link to any gpu-oriented software.

"One zero too few" on the iteration count for your above residue sample there, Gord.

The uptake of this latest MP announcement by the news establishments has been much less than the last one. This is only the third article I'm aware of (and only the second in English).

Oh, well. Not completely unexpected, based on the timing (a Friday, and the holiday season).

Interesting that Aaron and me are mathematicians now, I feel humbled by this revelation and I am afraid I cannot live up to the expectations.

Our reddit thread has gained some interest and a lot of questions. I'm "Einyen" in there btw (I use this most places, not sure why I ended up using my initials here in this forum):

LOL... Even before the "Fake News" phenomenon, if the mainstream media even smelled your name correctly, you were ahead!

I understand, but "heise.de" is an IT news service with over 20 million visits per month. The last largest prime number was published both in vulgar media as the "Bild-Zeitung", as well as in scientifically reputable media such as. "Spektrum der Wissenschaft". Sorry moggedbyall, but a pretty silly question is.
...
Is there a list of "all" exponents like 82589933 which result in a prime number?

What is the GIMPS project good for, when some people have the equivalent of the IQ of a light bulb!
