Pity that Homer Simpson is not real. We could easily talk him into buying a lot of computers and GPUs for GIMPS. Plus, he'd pull electricity from Flanders either way.

Just wait till I get the second one up and running. I am just waiting for the riser cable and 8-pin extension cord to arrive

They are VERY fast for consumer cards... and VERY expensive currently

$2100 Canadian from Newegg.ca When I look here the Radeon VII and 6900XT have similar throughput. The VII shows a much lower price here but I can't find it on newegg. Is there some specific reason for this? Thanks PS I can't wait until you have 2 cards up and running... 2021-10-26, 19:06 #830 Luminescence Oct 2021 Germany 13 Posts Quote: Originally Posted by petrw1$2100 Canadian from Newegg.ca When I look here the Radeon VII and 6900XT have similar throughput. The Radeon VII was discontinued. It is completely out of stock on all German online stores and more expensive than a 6900XT on ebay. But I think the Radeon VII is supported by Rocm and the 6900XT is not. I can't even get it to work with the supposedly supported AMDGPUPRO Rocr OpenCl drivers... but it could also just be me being a complete Linux noob

Wait for Radeon 7900 XT, the new RDNA 3 model will release during Q4 2022, it's going to be faster than both mentioned above.

That's a year away. Every card a year away will always be faster than today's card. How does waiting help you get work done?

I just noticed you are doing some P1 in 31.2M...I was going to start there soon as well. If you are here let's coordinate that range...i.e. you start low and I start high for example. To avoid toe stepping I will leave that range alone until I hear back. Thanks

It seems like that Radeon VII is not fast enough from the timing standards of a lot of users including PhilF. Radeon 7900 XT should be able to get the job done without too much patience.

Waiting for a certain generation of a card with the lower nanometer structure, so the user won't need to upgrade so often later on. Most of the under 20M unfactored exponent assignments can be moderately efficient to finish with the older hardware less than 9 years old. I consider Nvidia Geforce 4080 or 4090 the best choices to complete the TFs up to 2^75 before running the PRP-CFs.

Q4 2002 is just a perfect season when tons of the best cards release which the show probably won't be the same a year after that.

Not fast enough for what? I use my Radeon VII for GPUOwl whenever it isn't busy with other things and I can benefit from the extra heat.
