Unhappy Work expired but still running, what to do ?

Henlo henlo

So I got assigned LL d-c of M60270883 on 17 february and boot the worker about twice+ a month. Today I logged on my team page to see our progress and was suprised to see that I did not appear anywhere.
So I looked up my assignments page to see nothing .. wuuut I'm only at bout 20% !!

So I searched the forum and all to finally go check the exponant status and to my surprise my work as expired :(

So newbie me is searching for help on how I can continue to work on my assigments without and actually finish it without losing the time already spent, halp me please, what can I do ?

Welcome to the forum and the GIMPS project.
If you look at the assignment rules: https://www.mersenne.org/thresholds/
You will see that there are expiration rules.
So with an infrequently used machine you will want to pick numbers that are well into the Category 4 area. That will give you almost a year to finish it.

If that is too short for the machine, you may want to just leave it on more. Or there are some work types that are shorter, but you may have to manage them more. And which are advised will depend on how long the machine is up per episode.

The exponent is currently unassigned. You should be able to re-acquire it.

Exit prime95. Edit worktodo.txt. Remove the 32-character assignment ID (and the comma) so your line looks something like "DoubleCheck=1,2,exponent,-1,...". Restart prime95.

Ty for the response :)
I would never have finished in time.

As I use this computer much, what type of work can I do (fast and not urgent) ?
I tested TF and even that take long :P, maybe this computer is not appropriate for GIMPS..

Hey tanks u booth for the quick response.

Anyway LL double-check seems too much for this worker uptime, might start GIMPS on a more suitable machine.

Now i'm wondering what fast and minor assingments I can sign my worker too that would not take too long and be not urgent, any recommandation ?

I think we have just what you're looking for. PRP-CF, i.e. probable prime testing of cofactors of partially factored Mersenne numbers. Maybe the fastest task on average. Current PRP-CF wavefront - dense range of smallest exponents that are being tested for the first time - is at 11M exponent range, thus it's roughly 30 times (it can vary from PC to PC) faster to do than the 60M exponents.

Hoo yeah thy for the info, I signed for PRP-CF and TF, ETA for each is about 2 hours.
Much better :) I'll be able to complete those ones.

Now a final question, if i'm late to complete those factoring and the assignments expire is it still useful to complete them if nobody has ? i think it is but those expiring dates got me concerned

TF is no longer advised on CPU's unless you are just using the machine to heat a room. ECM is a good option.

With PRP-CF, if you know that you won't be running the machine anymore for a while, you might just stop Prime95. Then delete your worktodo.txt and any of the files that are a letter followed by numbers. Then you can go to the website and unreserve those assignments.

The ECM assignments are based on random curves and multiple people can work be working on different curves for the same number at once. So, if you don't complete it "on time" there is no real loss.

Ho thy :) it's quite hard to understand all that stuff when beginning and I found no newbie tuto of the hows and whats, so those advices were welcome :)
I set my worker on ECM on Mersenne cofactors so it will fuel on that for now on :)
Also finished my first work today with an F of 10737506471665069123721 for M218993839 incredible ^^
