Maybe someone found a way to do a modular sqrt?

Do the FFT, take a sqrt, do the inverse FFT.
Don't reach for you revolvers, it's a joke.

Are you certain 20:00 UTC is the earliest mention? Does anyone have an archived report showing there was no mention at 19:00 UTC?

Default I cannot believe it !!!!!!!!!!!

C'est incroyable ! C'est un rĂªve !
That is incredible ! It is a dream !

Two years with no result. And now two new candidate primes !!!

And, based on a deep knowledge of the properties of the digraph under x^2-2 modulo a Prime Mersenne number, I know how VERY LOW is the probability of a false-positive: So I'm sure we have 2 new Mersenne primes !!

But, do we have found M45 and M46 ? ................ I'm not sure ............ but... hush.

OK. I need another machine for verifying this new one... damned.

That is VERY bad luck for the second finder, when both numbers have more than 10M digits. (Or everybody get 50.000 USD)

I've rerun the last 10000 iterations. It checks out.

No, I think. Only 50k$ are dedicated to the discover of a >10M prime number. See: Prizes.

If the big irons are busy and Prime95 on a good quad core is about as fast as [GM]lucas on a non-Intel 16 core, couldn't we just run an LL test with Prime95, write residues every 1M iterations, and use the independent hardware/software run to verify from one residue to the next? Like they did with F24?

Ernst's buddies apparently have lots of spare power. They have begun an independent verification.

Spare power may be an overstatement, but we have begged & borrowed to get access to some of the best kit... it's certainly not every day I email an Executive VP for a favour

From Sun's esteemed pony tailed leader to all the rank and file, there's a little geek in all Sun employees that simply can't decline a request to do something cool with some big grunty hardware

So what hardware is being used for this verification?
