I am new to this, and am uncertain of the ins and outs. Perhaps some folks can enlighten me a bit. I find this to be a very cool project, and i like seeing the progress move up. Problem is im not seeing the results move up. I check the results page, and the ranking page, and dont see any upward movement.
I know im just doing the trial factoring on this particular pc, but on my other two its doing the LL thingy. I can see in the com window of the trial factoring pc that it is awarding me like .556-.557 ghz days on several occasions, but i dont see it being updated. Any info on this? Call me vain, but i like to see the numbers move. |

You won't get points for the "LL thingy" until it completes; depending on the size of the exponent and the size of your hardware this could be a few weeks or a few months ... but when it completes you will get a LOT more than .556 points for it ... anywhere from 12 points in the 18 million range to 85 points in the 48 million range. If you are missing a LOT of completions make sure your userid is set: On the Windows GUI it is Test Primenet... Make sure "Optional user ID" is NOT blank. You probably want it to say TimeSpy Last fiddled with by petrw1 on 2009-04-28 at 15:22 Reason: spelling |

As petrw1 mentioned, credit is awarded only for completed assignments. Your interim progress reports do update your expected completion dates, but the only report that updates your result credits is the one that reports that you've completed an assignment. If you've participated in other distributed computing projects, you may be used to seeing your totals updated quite frequently. That's because many other DC projects' work units take only hours, or no more than a couple of days, to complete. GIMPS's work units are assignments that can take (in the case of LL assignments) months. Last fiddled with by cheesehead on 2009-04-28 at 19:41 |

I do understand that it can take a very long time to complete the tasks. I could have messed up my settings somewhere, who knows, and it really isnt a big deal at all. I am just wondering while the trial factoring that my slow inspection office pc is doing doesnt update as tasks are completed. For instance.. I let the machine run overnite at 256mb, and this morning it showed 2 or 3 completed tasks. When i look at the finished tasks however, it only shows that it has only completed a total of three since i first started using the program. The 3 it shows as completed were done a few days ago. Again, its not a big deal. I am just wondering if i am missing something somewhere.
Thanks for the replys. |
