Because of summer heat the CPU temperature of the 3 computers "mprime" is running on is close to the lower bound of their respective maximum operating temperature range. To avoid damaging these CPUs I will have to stop for about 2 months the current calculations. At the time the outdoor temperature will come down enabling the respective calculations to resume from where I stop them, by using option 4 in the mprime menu?
Any help answering the above will be much appreciated. |

You can use the Throttle= option in prime.txt to lower the percentage of time mprime runs which lowers the temperature. You can test how low you need to go while watching the CPU temperature.

Thank you for this suggestion of this option of throttle. I did not know it existed. I will try it for sure.

You can also limit the total number of threads that are running. If you cut it back to half of the real threads, you can achieve less power use.

I tried the option Throttle=30 it brought down the CPU temperature by 5 degC to about 59 degC which is just fine. I did not try cutting down the number of thread yet but I will keep it in mind. Anyway throlling down to 30 is only temporary as when the outdoor temperature will go down I will be able to bring everything back up to 100%.
Thanks you all for all your very helpful advice. |

So it was only 64 C without the Throttle=30 ? That does not sound like much, most CPUs should have no problems running at 64 C.
