Tried searching for this, nothing came up.
Just downloaded Prime95 29.4 to upgrade a previous version. Now when I launch, I get a dialog with the error: "The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error 99999.)" How to fix? What does this error mean? |

No clue what the error is. I am running 29.4 on my Mac without issues. My OS X is 10.9.5, what is yours?
Maybe this is some kind of issue because of libgmp. Only recently did prime95 start using this library. It would be nice is the OS gave us a more helpful error message. |

Is libgmp.10.dylib loaded anywhere? Does version 29.2 work?
I'll try upgrading my OS to see if I can reproduce the issue. |

Geez, that was a mistake. Apple has seriously degraded my laptop. Half the icons are missing. VMware fails.
I'm pretty sure my next laptop will not be a Mac. BTW, Prime95 29.4 does run after upgrading. Last fiddled with by Prime95 on 2018-07-14 at 11:38 |

Now you know why I'm insistent on remaining "trapped in the past" with my Core2 macbook running 10.6.8 - I tried an upgrade to 10.7.5, it runs but is horrifically, grindingly slow. (And I cloned/regularly-incremental-mirror the 10.6.8-plus-all-my-favorite-apps HD to an SSD, so if/when the former dies I'm good to go). Since I do all my post-SSE2 x86 code-dev on Linux, only real issue with the Mac is the various web browsers, where even the latest ersion of FF and PaleMoon which run under 10.6.8 have trouble with webpages using web-tech not existing 10 years ago.

Okay, problem solved, although I can't give a specific answer as to why. My gut feeling is that it was something to do with what science_man_88 mentioned, system policy corruption.
I had started having trouble with my 12-Core Mac kernel panicking. A subsequent Disk First Aid showed an error that it couldn't fix. This started a 3-day journey down the rabbit hole of formatting the 1TB SSD drive, restoring it from a Time Machine backup. Machine came back to life (after 34 hours of restoral and crunching) with no other issues. Latest version of Prime95 working, and no kernel panics. |
