NFSnet is presently working on 2^787-1, and has accumulated about 15 million relations, at a rate of a little over a million a day.

There is something bearing a vague resemblance to a status page at

http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~twomack/nfsnet.html

but at present it is updated only manually; I have not yet (after nine months!) accumulated the effort to write the scripts to do automatic generation of the recent-contributions section.

I notice one thing on the Cunningham Table extension pages.
Last link refers to Factoring News from Brazil (in Portuguese)...I'm Portuguese and the text is not related to math factoring.....just wanted you guys to know about it.

Thanks for pointing this out. The page referenced is maintained by Prof. Sam Wagstaff.

I advise to take that link off....I really don't understand the meaning of factoring when it concerns to companies but making a quick search it's related to credit, leasing, etc...

EDIT: Factoring is some kind of financial credit...

Carlos,

As with any area of interest, there are words that have significantly different meaning depending upon the context.

In financial circles, "factoring" has to do with the practice of "selling" accounts receivable in order to obtain ready cash.

However, on this forum, I am likely to be the only member that have used the term in that context.

Here, "factoring" refers to the mathematical concept of reducing a number to an equivalent product of prime numbers.

Can't say that I've _used_ factor as a financial term, but one can't
pull up a google page on integer factorization without getting sponsored
links advertizing the wrong use (un-intended, that is). Seems to be
a flaw in their algorithm; or perhaps an "error on purpose" that might
have some effect on their ad revenue.

Just noticed something I liked about Tom's new status page; unless
I'm imagining, it seems to have been updated already, with Dec 12
reln counts. Not a replacement for individual or team stats, with the
intended focus on raising rates from new and/or smaller users; but
perhaps we can regard this as a NFSNET team stat, and compete with
ourselves to raise the (total) daily rate.

Any chance this is one of those English/European social things? Here's our
chance to demonstrate Community effort; freed from the (nasty) effects
of individual pride and greed. Go Team! -Bruce

When on the lecture circuit after the RSA-129 factorization, I used to show a slide copied from an article in the (I think) The Times entitled Make Money from Factoring. The joke, of course, being that the article was about financial engineering.

Some years later I was invited to brief some moderately high-up people in the Bank of England on the implications of a public demonstration of the factoring of a hard 512-bit number. The same ambiguity was noted at that meeting.
