Sounds like it is very specific features that this application Maya uses, probably not 3 times performance for everything else.

Here's the original blog post by Nvidia.
Note them saying "...applications like Maya...", so it should not be a specific software optimisation.

From what I've pieced together, the aforementioned driver boosts half-precision (FP16) performance for Pascal Titan X, but that's not used much in CUDA programs for GIMPS, right?
