Sounds a good idea. I no longer have the time to be a captain although I can still play.

I am hoping our foursome can stay together, maybe with Brian as the captain

That would be good. For some reason we keep on losing as a team but I suppose the point is enjoyment not winning.

As an onlooker, is there any appetite for reducing the time between moves to 4 or 5 days?

Certainly it would be desirable to speed things up a bit. I'm frankly amazed at your patience, and that of other spectators, continuing to watch the paint dry as you did.

But sometimes a week really is needed by a team to get the move properly discussed.

And sometimes a week is longer than necessary.

Perhaps we need some incentive for teams not to use a full week when it's an obvious move. There was a suggestion earlier on that we could do better with a system of a certain number of days to play a certain number of moves. Maybe the arbiter could keep a count of time used. Or the teams could keep the count with the arbiter on hand in case of any dispute about number of days used.

Does that sound like a good idea? Or some variation on it?

Thanks for the vote of confidence with that. I am willing to captain the Geckos if no-one else wants to, but I suspect I can be a little too annoying sometimes with my opinions and someone with a more mellow temperament would do it better. David did this really well, but since he is bowing out of that role I would suggest that you, Paul, or alternatively Rich, would both make excellent captains.

Do you want to do it, Paul? Or Rich?

Brian, I have to respectfully decline to be team captain. It's tough enough with my work schedule to participate as it is.

I have to say, though, that I have never found you annoying nor tempermental. You have always been a complete gentleman. I would be happy to have you as captain. Paul would also be a great captain in my opinion. And, David, thank you for your two+ years of service as captain through our two games.

In regards to shortening the time between moves, I am not at all in favor of that change. Between work and family obligations, a week is really necessary for me. I appreciate that spectators would like to see the game move more quickly, but with four team members, time zone differences, and everyone's other real life commitments, I think a week is required.

Yes, I was afraid your work commitments might make taking on the captaincy of the Geckos impossible, Rich. I agree with you that Paul would make a great captain and he is online a great deal. Would you be willing to do this, Paul?

Do other people have views and ideas regarding how we arrange the timekeeping?

And what about the makeup of the teams as Mike asked in his opening post? The question in my mind now is whether the Pirates are looking for a new member or two before we start. Was playing with just two in the team okay for you, LaurV and WMHalsdorf, or would new faces be useful. (And, of course, are you both happy to play again too? We haven't heard from either of you since you mated us.)

Thanks for the vote of confidence; I will take up the offer of captaincy. This takes care of our team, however our opponents, the Pirates, need some other team members -- so come on people and step up to the challenge.

Great! Thanks very much.

The makeup of the Geckos seems clear now with you as captain and all four of us willing to continue.

As you say, we still need some clarity about the Pirates and possibly some new members.

Additionally: Serge, are you willing to continue your role as arbiter for us?
