Double checking

Recently my assignments have switched from LL to double checking. Do I receive credit for the double checking hours? Why would I be switched after a couple of years doing LL tests?

Double-Checking means LL double-checking. Of course credit is given for LL-D hours.

If you are using a recent version of Prime95 (I'm not certain of this, since the unit of credit on the current v5 server is GHz-Days and you speak of hours), and you have "Let the server decide which worktype is best" checked/enabled in your options, then the change in worktype is probably a consequence of your machine becoming relatively slow (seeing as how it is several years old) compared to the most current hardware, and the server assigns LL-D tests to those somewhat slower machines.

There's also the possibility that you have accumulated enough "reliability" points with the server that you are being asked to help reach the next major GIMPS milestone, proving that M(24036583) is indeed the 41st Mersenne Prime, which is all of 80 LL-D tests away from completion. See http://www.mersenne.org/report_milestones/ ; don't hold your breath as about 400 tests were needed back in January.

If you are on the V4 server, someone else will need to respond, as I know nothing of it.

well it now says 79 so you've sped it up a bit. lets see 400-79 in 186 days or so about 1.72 a day finishing up so keeping this rate up we can expect to finish this check by august 19 th this year if http://www.timeanddate.com/date/dura...&y2=2011&ti=on helped me any.

of course the sad part is by that same rate we won't have all LL-d test to prove no new prime under M(43112609) until Wednesday, September 26, 2564 , which oddly enough is my 576th anniversary of birth lol and yes 576 is a square and I used it earlier today in the other bases thread.

oddly enough that's not the only one really close or on my birthdays: September 27, 2218 = M(32582657) proved 44th.

The DC "wave" is advancing by ~2M per year. (~5 tests per hour).
We wouldn't expect the tail end to pass 24M until next year.

OTOH We would expect it to pass 43M in ~10 years.

I'm just basing it on what was said 400 -> 79 left in 156->186 days gives an average of 1.72-2.05 turned in a day. at this rate to finish the 79 left will take until the dates suggested , I've done the math.

okay 5 test per hour * 24 hour * 365 days = 43800 test a year so you need to knock out $(1-\frac{43800}{2000000}) = .9781$ or 97.81% of numbers before any tests are done to achieve that.

Should be fairly self-explanatory. It looks at the linear and exponential paces for each of the major milestones over several different time intervals.

The issue is that while the final few hundred LL-D checks take a lot of calendar time for a given mersenne prime (because there are relatively few of them left), the vast majority of them proceed much more quickly. 5 LL-D per hour =120 per day, about 350K to prove M47, so thats ~3000 days = 10 years. Should happen in your lifetime. Note that a significant portion of prime exponents get shown composite by other means, such as TF and P-1, so never need an LL at all, and you can expect that to increase in the next few years.
