On another note, I've decided that I'll reenforce the war against the conjectures, mostly due to an uprise in the insurgency among the primes unwilling to accept their defeat and adapt to the conjecture. Only little can be done, but my dual core has been crying out for help against the base 3 Riesels, and lets face it 2 cores to control such masses of primes just ain't enough, so this afternoon local time on a budget meeting, I consulted myself and decided that reenforcement is highly needed to prevent the loss of technology aswell as CPU cycles. So tomorrow the effort will be reenforced with at least a dual core or maybe with some luck (most likely) a quad-core. This reenforcement may not be enough to control the masses but who can say exactly what the future will hold in terms of further reenforcement.

End of press release.

KEP!

You are hilarious!! That's awesome if you add a new quad to the mix. Heck, add a few quads! lol

I am at k=10M on base 3. Now that I'm back from my trip and the NPLB rally is over, I'll put a core back on it after I get the correct motherboard on my final quad, which should ship Tuesday and I should have installed by Thursday.

Due to all the recent interest in Sierp. base 3, I've decided to start a team sieve for the 36 k's remaining for k<10M at n=25K. I know the original plan was to wait until we had ~100 k's left at n=25K and then do a big sieve on that, but at 36 k's we've already got about the same number of k's that we did in the Sierp. base 6 drive, which was a pretty good size. So, I'm thinking that it would be a good idea to get started on sieving these k's sooner rather than later.

I'll start the sieve with srsieve soon--the exact k's that will be sieved are: 2930054, 2949008, 2980832, 3159992, 3234118, 3891872, 3938414, 4273396, 4660218, 5574644, 6123394, 6363484, 6752308, 6859514, 7081006, 7111766, 7468382, 7865238, 7879512, 7969792, 8058998, 8090242, 8167364, 8182316, 8603464, 8828234, 8911036, 8990238, 9043382, 9095488, 9240646, 9294874, 9483244, 9572848, 9690724, and 9987808. I'm thinking that we should sieve them for a range of n=25K-200K.

You can expect to see the team-sieve thread posted soon--it will be run very similarly to the Sierp. base 6 team sieve.

If there are any objections, just give a holler.

@ Gary: Thanks and there might come more Quads depending on what my financial advisor (me) and the departement of defence (my computer store) can come up with of various offers tomorrow local time or ~10:30 hours from now.

@anon: Why... oh why don't you ask Gary for the 69 k's that I shipped him and start a sieve for these 105 k's... of course if Gary doesn't mind... I can send them to you if no one objects and you're interested

Have fun anyone!

Oh, I didn't even know about those k's! Yes, that would be great--okay, Gary, would you mind providing me with the list of those k's? The sieve for the original 36 k's is almost complete to p=1G, but then I can just start the sieve separately for the other 69 k's, and merge the sieves when the second one is caught up.

To update the pages to include k=110M-120M for Sierp base 3 is #2 on my task list of 8 things to do for prime searching today. #1 is now done. #2 is in the works.

I think we're jumping the gun here on a team drive. It would be messy to include those 69 k's for k=110M-120M in a team drive with the 36 k's for k<10M. If we're going to do a team drive, let's keep the k-range contiguous.

Also, I'd still just as soon hold off on a team sieve for Sierp base 3 until we have at least 100 k's remaining in a contiguous k-range. It's simply a matter of long-term sieving and testing efficiency, namely sieving. If you went the slippery slope, we could hold off until we had 100000 k's remaining for max long-term efficiency but we need a happy medium where we're finding some large primes along the way, which is a little more fun for people.

Another reason for holding off is that we haven't had much activity on Sierp base 6 recently nor on any of the team drives. We may get the sieving done and it'll just sit there with little work. I plan to put 1-2 cores on Sierp base 6 later today. Redistributing the work on my machines is task 6 of my 8 tasks today.

I'll tell you what: I'll unreserve k=30M-100M for Sierp base 3. I'll admit I bit off a bit too much there. Once I hit k=30M (I'm thinking about 2-4 weeks on 1 core), we can start a team drive on those k's.

KEP or Anon, if you want to reserve parts of k=30M-100M for Sierp base 3 for PFGW testing to n=25K, go ahead. I think that would be a better use of resources at this point than starting a team sieve.

Okay, I agree, it probably wouldn't be that great to start a team sieve yet for base 3. I should have thought of that--after all, wasn't I the guy who was all worried about spreading ourselves too thin earlier on when we were discussing LLRnet servers?

No big deal--I only did a negligible amount of sieving work, so I just tossed what I had done into the bit bucket.

As for testing parts of k=30M-100M with PFGW: well, I would gladly agree to do some, except that I haven't been able to get ahold of a Linux PFGW version. So far I've just been using WinPFGW in a virtual machine, which is no big deal for little things like verifying PRPs, but will be a serious slowdown for a large effort like Sierp. base 3. So, I guess I'll just stick to already-started bases for now. (We need to bug Jean Penne to give LLR 3.7.1d an option to accept ABC2 input files--i.e. the files we use with PFGW to make it stop searching a given k when a prime is found! )

Keep your sieved file. We'll sieve the rest of the k's < 30M (or whatever) that are remaining up to your sieve limit and then combine them. No reason to re-sieve those 36 k's.

Yeah, I wondered that about PFGW. Let me know if you find a Linux version of PFGW that would be easy for a Linux novice to load on a machine. The cores that I'll put Sierp base 3 on is my Athlon laptop. Not a great tester but it's OK for low n-ranges and it's a dual-core so I'll put both on it. It's doing filler work on port 300 right now and I don't have any sieving that I need for it to do right now.

As I told KEP, I can't do any more responses in forums today except perhaps questions/comments on Sierp base 6 sieving/team drive, which is task 3 on my 8 tasks today. (lol) Back to web page updating...

Sorry, too late for that now--fortunately it was only 1G, so about ~30 minutes to an hour of work. No biggie.

Okay. There is a Linux version of OpenPFGW available, I know that much, but you have to register for the Primeform Yahoo group in order to get it. (Why don't they just post it on a regular website? Obviously the people who develop it all have Yahoo accounts, which means they've each got plenty of space on free Geocities web hosting--they could just put it up on there easily. Okay, end rant. )

I have moved all posts related to base 3 to a new stickied thread.

There will be some signficant changes to the k's remaining for Sierp base 3 for k=110M-120M. Info. will be in the new thread shortly.

I have an exciting result after having been away from home for a few days. A new phrot discovery:

958*11^300544+1 is PRP. (t=9903.68s)

I am trying to verify with PFGW. I'm uncertain as to how long the verification will take. If this holds, it will be the first mega-bit prime found with phrot and AFAIK, the first mega-bit prime found on PowerPC. It will also solve the Sierpinski problem for base 11.

Thanks to Phil for his software.

Oh my word! That is HUGE!! A huge congratulations and thanks from all of here at CRUS!! Good luck on that verification!

You must have had some serious firepower going after that one. I only showed you at n=200K as of April 24th!

For everyone's reference, that's 2 conjectures now proven by Rogue! It's nice to finally knock out one of the many stubborn Sierp conjectures that have just 1-2 k's left.
