Lightbulb Vote Chess: Game 1

Would anyone be interested in forming a couple of teams on mersenneforum and playing a game of vote chess on the forum? Private subforums could be used quite well for this.

Let's have a vote on if we should play vote chess. (That means yes.)

I inspected my ballot and didn't find a Mr. or a Mrs.Chess, so I will not be voting for them. My daughter had a teacher called Mr.Chess - I can vote for him being the best teacher at Torrey Pines. Or not; no, I cannot - she graduated three years ago. :-)

Count me in!

How do private subforums work? Could they be set up so that each team has a private forum which no non-team member can see (except supermods I guess) so that the team can discuss the analysis of the game? If so, I guess we would need Mike's (Xyzzy's) help.

This is possible. The easiest method is to just put a password on the subforum.

What about visualization of this virtual chessboard? Preferably we wouldn't have to register for another site...

No time. But if you make a "vote renju" or "vote gomoku" count me in, as a (unique?) member of the other team.

(this is a boast to say that I am really good and can play against you all )

edit: Why not? In fact thinking again, it will not take too much time if you don't force me to vote for any move, say a move is done when more then x% team members voted (in totally, for the move, or against the move, i.e. for other moves)

Clearly we'd have to agree whether we regard the use of chess playing software as ethical or not beforehand.

Nowadays correspondence chess organisations generally do allow the use of such software, I suspect mainly because outlawing it would not succeed in practice. But if henryzz' idea goes ahead I think we probably can trust members of this small community not to use software on the position while the game is being played or, if they do, not to take part and not to reveal the results of the computer analysis to those who are taking part.

Or maybe we should just allow analysis by software to help the team members decide on the moves?

Any views on this?

I wouldn't participate if we could use software (at least not the first time). I'd like to see how we split up/how alike we think/etc., and using software analysis kinda removes those elements.
