I had a simple one word login for my computer. It's a desktop, so it's never going to leave the house. Now I've signed up to a Microsoft account because I wanted some virtual currency in a game I liked. So, Microsoft, in all it's shit-eating wisdom, decided that my Microsoft password should now be my login password for the WHOLE DAMN MACHINE. I can't go back to my simple one word password because my credit card details would now be at risk.
So this leads to my question. Is there a service which systematically helps Steve Ballmer and Satya Nadella understand that they are hated and reviled by their users? Maybe there's a subscription fee and and a Youtube channel that shows attempts to inform them that they are raging assholes who need to suffer? Edit:Googled it, and it looks like I need to point my rage at Satya Nadella. Last fiddled with by jasong on 2016-10-29 at 03:38 |

You seem angry. Why not just switch your machine back to using a local account rather than an online account? There are many articles online about how to do this for whichever version of Windows you are using.

normally I think Jasong over-reacts but in this case I had a similar experience which was pretty frustrating. (okay he's still over-reacting, but I was on the same spectrum)
the real issue is that if I wanted a computer to tell me how to do things I would buy a Mac. M$ generally is better at letting you op-in to crap like that. (Though it's all been down-hill since Windows 8. |

I've also built a Linux box, Mint Mate to be precise, and configured it so it looks and behaves very similar to the Windoze to which she is accustomed. |

Mint is pretty good for that purpose. I set my sister up with a Mint box at one point -- it was easy and sufficiently Windows-like for say-to-day purposes while still letting her play with some of the linux powertools when needed.
