Default Goddamn you, Microsoft, you've made me muck up again.

I had a simple one word login for my computer. It's a desktop, so it's never going to leave the house. Now I've signed up to a Microsoft account because I wanted some virtual currency in a game I liked. So, Microsoft, in all it's shit-eating wisdom, decided that my Microsoft password should now be my login password for the WHOLE DAMN MACHINE. I can't go back to my simple one word password because my credit card details would now be at risk.

So this leads to my question. Is there a service which systematically helps Steve Ballmer and Satya Nadella understand that they are hated and reviled by their users? Maybe there's a subscription fee and and a Youtube channel that shows attempts to inform them that they are raging assholes who need to suffer?

Edit:Googled it, and it looks like I need to point my rage at Satya Nadella.

You seem angry. Why not just switch your machine back to using a local account rather than an online account? There are many articles online about how to do this for whichever version of Windows you are using.

normally I think Jasong over-reacts but in this case I had a similar experience which was pretty frustrating. (okay he's still over-reacting, but I was on the same spectrum)

the real issue is that if I wanted a computer to tell me how to do things I would buy a Mac. M$ generally is better at letting you op-in to crap like that. (Though it's all been down-hill since Windows 8.

Windows 8 was the worst OS since ME. Windows 10 is vastly better than 8 or 8.1.

Yes, it is much better at spying and monitoring. Welcome to the Panopticon.

I do love irony.

I've told SWMBO that if she goes to Win10 she's her own sysadmin and tech support.

There is a contradiction in the above sentence.

Suppose she does go to Win10 and tells you to provide sysadmin and tech support. Now what?

You give her two phone tubes connected by a wire.
She can talk to one end and respond to the other. ...at the same time!

That's why God gave us two ears!

I've already told her that I flatly refuse to support Win10.

I've also built a Linux box, Mint Mate to be precise, and configured it so it looks and behaves very similar to the Windoze to which she is accustomed.

Mint is pretty good for that purpose. I set my sister up with a Mint box at one point -- it was easy and sufficiently Windows-like for say-to-day purposes while still letting her play with some of the linux powertools when needed.
