Ok so I’m a relatively new o'cer - and just trying my hand at this kind of thing. First of all, system specs are -
Amd 64 3000 Winchester @ 2.5ghz Kingston Hyper X 1 gig kit model no. - KHX3200AK2/1G GA-K8NS-939 - nForce3 Ultra chipset Gigabyte 6600GT Western Digital 160 Gig sata Stock Cooling I overclocked my cpu slowly – 5mhz a hit, and have so far reached about 2.5Ghz- up from the standard 1.8Ghz. Vcore is set to 1.475 and I’m running stable temperatures of about 40c – this is on stock cooling (which makes me wonder if I could push any further…..) Torture testing in Prime 95 successful for both the large and small tests (tested for an hour each) but failed on the Blend test. Was getting 100 sumout errors or something…….. I tried lowering everything a bit, but still got errors. Eventually I went back completely to stock settings for everything. When running it at stock I STILL get errors – though when at stock I got different error, some kind of fatal error….. I’m going to run memtest to check my memory….. but if that passes I have no idea what to do next. Anyone have any ideas about what my memory should be set at? I think it was running at a ratio of 2/1.33 at 2-3-2-6-1….cas 2… and the voltage was bumped up a step – not sure what the limit is for this ram……not sure what Mhz it runs at…..i cant find that in the bios, but it has a greyed out option saying Memclock 100mhz….whatever that means… Anyway I would really appreciate some help and suggestions other than “Buy new ram”….. cause I’m sick of people telling me how I bought expensive RAM which is crap. I’m stuck with it until I get some cash saved. Thanks in advance |

obviously read those before i posted......not much help there -
exactly what settings should i use in a custom torture, rather than a blend torture than? The only problems i have is when i run blend which would indicate ram problem according to those posts. i've tried memtest and that passed fine and upped the voltage, losened settings - nothing working..... would filling the last two slots on my mobo with the same ram help? i've heard that sometimes that having all for in dual channel has helped stability as opposed to just two. Anyone have any ideas to my solution apart from the two threads listed already? |

AMD64 processors and motherboards can be very picky about the RAM modules used (probably due to the integrated memory controller) - are the modules being used on the MB maker's tested/approved list?
Also, updating (and sometimes downgrading) the MB BIOS can take care of memory issues. |

Thanks for that tip. I actually updated my bios to the latest version - ran memtest (which passed) then ran Prime blend test which also passed! Yay.....no need for new ram just yet. However - one more thing - is it better to have the Mhz of the memory set higher with loose settings, or tighten the settings and lower the Mhz. For instance which would be a better setting -
2-3-3-7 @ 200Mhz or 2-3-2-6 @ 140Mhz And how do i find out what Mhz my memory is capable of? Oh and one more thing, I havnt been able to find anywhere what voltage my memory is running at. Is there a tool, or piece of software that can tell me this? I know that SisSoftware Sandra didnt mention it (i think). Thanks in advance! |
