Default Estimated completion dates

I did search but did not find related posts…

I am wandering how this ‘estimated completion dates’ (ECD) are calculated.

The way I see it, it should be simple: number of iterations left x time per iteration (last, average, whatever). But reported ECD is way off; I have 20,247,209 iteration left; per iteration time is 0.059sec; it comes to 13 days and change left (I might be wrong). Today is 2012.11.13. End should be around 2012.11.26. Prime reports 2012.12.07??? Any thoughts?

possibly due to the fact that it doesn't always run at full speed at all time (when you work on it...)

Prime95 produces a rolling estimate of how fast it thinks your computer is, and uses that relative to how much work it thinks the current assignment is to compute an estimate. (See "RollingAverage" or something similar in local.txt.) I agree that a simple iter time*iters left would also make sense, but hey. Edit: The reason just occurred to me: as firejuggler points out, some people don't run 24/7; in that case our simple estimate doesn't account for when the computer is off. That's why Prime95 computes the RollingAverage and uses that instead. (You can try shutting down Prime95 (Test/Exit), editing the RollingAverage to 1000, and then restarting Prime95 and getting its ETA again.)

Thank you for reply. I found some discussion regarding 'rolloingaverage' on this forum. Yeah, it is easy to find when you use correct key words ;)

I reset to 1000 and got even worse estimate. Then I set it up to 3000 and it is off by one day. Not so bad!

I suggested before to implement instead of finding estimated time of completion through Test/Status to display it with every line when reporting iteration... Reply was something like 'well, one day when everybody is idle...' or similar. Not exactly high priority...
