At the risk of appearing unkind, you won't see any sadness from me on the passing of that extreme-right ideologue.

So 0bama gets to appoint another faux-progressive hardcore-corporatist before exiting stage left (erm, I mean stage-fake-left-but-then-sneaking-out-via-the-hard-right) ... fabulous! Capsule job description: 'Must be able to micturate on the Constitution while straightfacedly claiming it to be a blessed legal rain'.

The Senate is not going to confirm (or even allow a hearing). This probably needs to move to the Soap Box...

Good points, both.

EDIT: Good riddance, all the same. He has done far more than enough damage.

Callous as usual to those who oppose your unhuman views.

His views were far from mine, but he did respect the constitution.
Insults by you are not a rational, logical, impartial method.

The Supreme Court may not be perfect, but your attitude is unconscionable.

I disagree. This recently deceased creature showed utterly callous disregard for basic human decency. He twisted his decisions to fit pre-determined conclusions. His pose of originalism was merely cover for whatever ends he wished to pursue.

I make no apologies for being glad Scalia is gone. I repeat, he has done vast damage to the laws, the Constitution, and to the US polity in general.

Maybe someone born Post WWII will be appointed. Also a point that bother me : named, for life, with real power at hands? Call me distrusting but..That seem like dictatorship.

My partner and I have talked a lot about term limits, or age limits for Justices. He is all for it, while I am reminded that some of the sharpest liberal minds on the court are quite elderly, also. I guess trade-offs are inevitable.

I think that SCOTUS, like the Senate, was set up to put barriers in the way of runaway democratic mob rule, which some of the founders feared. Lifetime tenure also was established when lifetimes were not so long, at least on average. The Senate was put more in direct reach of the electorate some time ago. Perhaps some adjustments in the operations of the judicial system are also in order.

Many of his positions were dissents, in which he tried to challenge the way
the decision was made. His originalism was not a pose. It was a judicial
philosophy. Your disdain for that is deplorable.

Your using the word creature shows your unhuman philosophical bent.

A good man died, and you are glad he did. That's pathetic.

He was on the wrong side of some decisions, such as gay marriage.
But he was not a monster for that or anything else.

You on the other hand...

Read the constitution. Respect it.
