Thanks. I'll look into the FFT maths and benchmark thing soon.
BTW, I'm running an FX9370 4.4GHz with 8-cores. Since this thread started I switched to running 4 test instead of 8 and the ms/iter have halved from about 200 to 100. I've only got 4GB 1333MHz memory in it. Anyone got any advice? |

The advice was given earlier in this thread- for the parts of the CPU LL tests use, that chip is only a 4-core, so you shouldn't bother running 8 tests on it.
The iterations run so slowly on AMD that memory bandwidth isn't an issue. You can see this by comparing iterations times with 3 tests running vs 4 running; I reckon they'll be within 2-4%. An i3-4xxx would take 20ms/iteration (or 30? I forget), rather than 100; so there is 5x (or 3.3x?) more data flowing to/from memory per second on an i3 thread vs your FX. That's why AMD isn't memory-limited; the CPU is so slow the memory can keep up. Last fiddled with by VBCurtis on 2015-08-05 at 06:09 Reason: or is it 30ms? |

So 100 ms is to be expected?
The only problem is the machine is shutting down now. As far as I can tell it's overheating. It wasn't with 8 tests. Should I try it with 3 tests or get some more memory? |

Still I need to know what to do to stop the machine from turning off. |

To stop the machine from turning off, you need to cool it better. What is your current cooling solution?

Got a Noctua NH-D14 fan on it.

First check what temperature it is running at now. Try sensors or acpi at the command line if you havn't got a GUI app to show them. Also check the logs for temperature related messages (and messages just before it shut itself down).
On my system with an AMD CPU acpi shows: Code:
chris@linux-d853:~/ggnfs/trunk/tests> acpi -Bt Thermal 1: ok, 71.0 degrees C Chris |
