Now, I haven't followed this project closely, but ... aren't there twice as many potential factors at a given bit depth as there were at one bit lower, just as in the trial factoring of lower Mersenne numbers, so that the amount of work required doubles as each bit depth increases by 1? So shouldn't the average bit depth and the progress index reflect this by weighting each completed bit depth twice as much as the one before it, instead of giving each bit depth equal weight?

I have thought about that. As more expos roll in, it may be more meaningful as currently calculated. Right now it swings a bit when more expos are brought on-line.
The progress number is more of "how far we have gotten" (taking into account "kills", level, and volume) and less "how many cycles" have been put into the project.

Maybe in the future, I will whip-up a new formula.

Thank you ET. Because I help Kirk Pearson with the DC info site, I like to know exactly what is going on with the sites and I hadn't seen any real info directly ON the OBD site to explain each decimal step. Can you put it up somewhere, if you know it, so I can have a reference for the DC site in case I need it?

Sure! Which kind of information do you need? What do you mean with "decimal step"?

By "decimal step" I mean, it goes from 7.1 to 7.2 to 7.3 and so on. I know that indicates progress, but what does 1 decimal point higher mean compared to the last?

I attempted to explain that in the text that says
