A cut and paste op in XPP x64 results in an inaccessable file, like 'worktodo.txt'. Copy always works, no problems. So, what is the issue?

Stop P95 (from "test/exit" option in the menu, not just from the red X, when you press the red X, P95 goes in the background and the OS may see the file still accessed by it. WinXP64 has some strange things, either you use XP32, or, if 64 is a must, switch to Win7).

I don't do this when P95 is running. I always stop it from the menu. I have Win7 Pro 32 bit. It behaves strangly with this Athlon 64. Seems to have a mind of its own. Win8 is out! So, Win7 64 will be next. P95 64 works quite well with XP x64. Performance is far better running larger bit lengths when factoring. I'll put up with the quirks for now. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated!

Well, the only difference between a cut and a copy is that the former deletes the file, but the last does not. The deletion is done AFTER the file is copied. There is a flag set which says "delete this file after the copy was successful". If copy/paste works but cut/paste does not, there can be only one explanation: you can't delete the file. This is either because "something" is accessing (therefore locking it for edit and/or deletion) OR you don't have enough rights (to delete files in that folder, or in some of its parents, etc).
edit: Right click on it -> properties -> security -> blah blah... Last fiddled with by LaurV on 2013-10-29 at 02:34 |

Why not just make a worktodo.add file at your leisure, then start and stop Prime95? No need to mess with the 'live' file.
