In XP in Control Panel, you can go to System and in Advanced Settings there is an option whether you want more memory to the programs or background apps. Also you can do system cache. That would probably help Prime95.

Not likely, unless you do a lot of Stage 2. Prime just simply doesn't do that much that requires memory. Cache size, however, helps nicely.
