Default When are triple-checks put on the server?

OK, I learned over in the lounge that when triple-checks are put on the server, they are put on as double-checks. The original thread is here. This leads me to a follow-up question, and I figured I'd put the question in the server forum.

When are triple-checks put on the server? Is it only when the LL and the DC residues don't match? Or are TCs put on the server also when there was an error during one of the tests, even if the residues match? Or maybe just for serious errors, not errors like "ILLEGAL SUMOUT"?

They are made available whenever the residues do not match. A match with errors reported is OK.

I usually gather those exponents needing triple-checking every month or two. In fact, I started such a list last night...

Question

Pardon my ignorance here but...

If mismatches of LL and Double Check tests result in a third test which is again called a Double Check....

And, if the stats page says ALL exponents below 18,000,000 have been tested at least once....

Then, why are there still over 500 LL assignments below 18,000,000. I understand that when the second column has a blank or asterisk it is a LL (hence, first time) test.

I asked a similar question once, and the only polite answer I got explained it nicely.
Sometimes, someone will manually start testing a number after someone has been assigned it by PrimeNet. The person who got it first (i.e. from PrimeNet) counts as doing the first test, the person who started it second (i.e. manually, in this example, although it could equally be someone who got it from PrimeNet because the first person's reservation of the number expired even though they are still working on it) counts as doing the double-check. However, the person doing the double-check may finish their test first due to having a faster machine.
The reason the PrimeNet list doesn't change the first person's test to a double-check (which is what it technically becomes) is that this database flag is used to calculate the amount of "P90 years" awarded.
Why they don't use two flags - one for use in calculating the appropriate "P90 years" score, and one to indicate whether a test is *actually* a first-time or a double-check - is something someone who helped design PrimeNet would have to explain. I'm betting it's something to do with saving disc space.

The credit awarded does not depend on whether the number is a first-time test or a double-check. The reason is pure and simple: the Primenet server is old and its reporting mechanism has lots of holes.

The work to do for double checks is the same as for a first time check. It is the quantity of work done for primenet that is measured by the credit. There is no reason to "reward" double checks differently.
