When in 1996 did GIMPS start? According to wikipedia it was January 1996. Could it happen to coincide with the press release of this?

I saw this one and thought "that's odd...umm... really odd, wait a minute!" Well, we learn from our mistakes. The code that *should* have notified George and others when a prime was reported needs some looking at (doing it right now in fact).

Great news!
Maybe there should be a manual monthly check for any new primes? Couldn't take that much work.

Not that residue, but in fact one of the failsafes I added would be to show a fake residue for a nonofficial prime.
The idea being that you could look through all the data and skim right over it. (Umm... what's the "evil" emoticon... oh, I guess )
