When in 1996 did GIMPS start? According to wikipedia it was January 1996. Could it happen to coincide with the press release of this?

That would be a nice thing to mention.

I'll spare you the effort and just say that wouldn't work anyway.

I know, right?

I should point out that I only noticed it in the data because of that question in another thread about which exponents had a nearly zero (or totally zero, as in false positive) residue.

I saw this one and thought "that's odd...umm... really odd, wait a minute!"

Well, we learn from our mistakes. The code that *should* have notified George and others when a prime was reported needs some looking at (doing it right now in fact).

I'd be amused if the fake residue was 123456......

Great news!

Maybe there should be a manual monthly check for any new primes? Couldn't take that much work.

There could be something that runs hourly and checks, emailing folks, but it'd just be nice to see the automated notification work.

In fact that wouldn't be a bad little failsafe, just a SQL agent task.

Not that residue, but in fact one of the failsafes I added would be to show a fake residue for a non-official prime.

The idea being that you could look through all the data and skim right over it.

(Umm... what's the "evil" emoticon... oh, I guess )
