I suppose I could write a script to attempt to reserve every exponent that should be available for double check and see what fails. But I'm lazy :-)
LOL...I think George would cry if all of a sudden the available exponents on the server dried up. Good thing I know you're joking... you are, right?

I'll never talk! Existential questions of life, are secret primes worth dying for?

If a Mersenne Prime falls in the forest and nobody notices, does it make a sound?

What if they gave found a war Mersenne Prime and nobody came noticed?

Is that a Mersenne Prime in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

It's fun having an XML dump of everything. I should really import the data into tables for faster querying. Right now I'm using parallel algorithms in Java to process the files across 8 virtual cores each time. Takes a minute or two each run.

If I did do something like that, I'd catch and release :-)

Was this thread made invalid by the "missed" prime? (assuming it is actually verified)

Well, you´ve certainly done a pretty nice job. You´ve hidden it so well, even from yourselves, that it went unnoticed for some time...

It's nice, though, that George has immediately informed the community with this thread rather than only telling the verifiers and waiting a mere two extra days till we know for certain that it's prime. Quite in character, of course, but still worth mentioning.

So, when the press release will be written, maybe it is an idea to include some statements at the end that the GIMPS community also discovered a bug in the Skylake processor in the past weeks that can derail complex scientific computations and is being corrected by Intel and partners at this moment. GIMPS has therefore once again proven to have spin off that makes a direct contribution to the science community and the world.

Sounds like a good idea to me.
