Default decline in thoughtput over past six months

I noticed that our average throughput has steadily dropped from around 360 to 250 TFLOPS over the past six months. Anyone know what's happening?

AirSquirrels switched to Ethereum, probably.

Also, MadPoo has lost his compute resources, so it's going to get worse, especially for DC.

Looking at the "30 days" statistics from today and 6 months ago:

Code:
			2017-08-18 00:00 UTC	2017-02-18 00:00 UTC
Actual TFLOP/sec 272.396 402.338
GHz-Days 4085940 6035073
Active user IDs 4522 5099
Active computers 27316 30222
work units 718025 2413321
So the number of of active users went down ~11% and active computers went down ~10%.

I did notice that quite a few of Curtis' assignments in category zero were expiring lately. Maybe they took some labs offline over the summer like you said?

Yep - here is upper few lines of 'top' output from his 32-core Xeon server, whose CPU portion he is generously allowing me to hog for ongoing Fermat-number testing:
Code:
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
 2353 ewmayer 20 0 927344 329452 3816 S 2576 0.3 655615:08 Mlucas
28484 root 20 0 18.985g 223320 62804 S 11.8 0.2 2310:12 ethdcrminer64
The actual GPU-based throughput of his job gets short shrift in the Linux top output, but we can presume it's 'lots'.

According to David, that mining to take advantage of the current crypto-currency price bubble is helping pay for a crapload of new hardware, so presumably said HW will be helping him make up for lost time once he resumes GIMPS work.

Perhaps those assignments were on older systems that have been upgraded without curtisc bothering (or having the chance) to transfer the assignments in progress.

I do notice that the UCM-curtisc team only has 2,280 total outstanding assignments. IIRC this is down considerably from the 3,000+ that I have seen in the past.

It is a shame that curtisc doesn't drop by the forum once in a while.

Perhaps they've switched their focus from outstanding to mediocre assignments? :)

It's just a matter of time... our stuff is moving to the cloud, for better or worse. LOL
