It might be my fault. I turned down the volume on speakers.

You've made the first step, yes. ;-) this is how google translates it because it probably has access to some version of the original text and uses neural networks.
The Patriarch's Ponds are a small pond in Moscow. And the quote is a fragment (telegram, really) from Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita. |

Patriarch Ponds perhaps, though I'm led to believe there is on just the one pond.
And no trams run there, but that wouldn't stop a tragedy would it? We could find out more, but I find it a good policy to never talk to strangers. http://cr.middlebury.edu/Bulgakov/PUBLIC_HTML/PPondsmap2.html Last fiddled with by chappy on 2013-12-26 at 07:56 Reason: beaten to the punch by a Batalov. |

P.S. There's no way google could have translated the phrase correctly if not for the association search. "Зарезало" means "I've been cut" (as if with a knife), and in the context, indeed the Berlioz character looses his head under the tram. There's no way to translate that as "run over by tram" if not by matching the text from the database.
Now, it gets interesting. How did he send this telegram you might ask? ;-) (maybe like kracker?) Oooh, it's a long story. Most people say that M.Glenny tranlation is good, or maybe that of Karpelson (which is unavailable in press). I just flipped through the opening pages of the Burgin translation; looks ok. Pevear translation doesn't look bad either... Hmm, this will be a long evening, because I like to be thorough. I'll have to read them all now. ;-) |

![]() I hope you realize how near the mark that is. One of us is encouraging LL testing and the other is just optimizing Prime95. Happy New Year. |
