5 years ago I was fairly into astronomy -- 3 telescopes, regularly went to star parties, helped at educational events, and so on. Moved to Oregon and just haven't had time for it (and Portland is harder in weather and light pollution).

Now I'm living in a great spot for the event happening on my birthday, and I'll be out of the country. I'll watch the news from Berlin.

HI Mersenne Forum,

The powers that be do not allow me to go to our international ( and everywere) eclipse party. Here in Oregon USA, the eclipse will begin in the morning time.

I recently asked a question to Maple Primes dot com. Hopefully some experts will see it in a day or two. It involves a Fibonacci Sequence with integer coefficients. I need to do some search for others who have worked on this expression. There is probably not much 'general interest' in the obscure mathematics that I am in to.

Stay strong all.

Regards,
Matt

Be sure to dress appropriately for which ever place you go.

Do you expect sudden temperature drops?

25 or more degrees F. Not too sudden, it drifts down, but I understand that during totality it may drop 5 to 10. Many years ago (1800's and early 1900's) there were studies of the temperature drop. This is eclipse there is a project to study it.

I was also joking about your 2 choices: Salem (wear a pointy hat) and Madras (wear a colourful sort of plaid print.)

If anyone is lacking accommodations around Smokey Mountain National Park, I have a group campsite that is allotted ~25 people. Currently our count of attendees is ~12.

I forget the exact days that I have the site booked for. PM if you are interested or would like more details. It was quite inexpensive so there is no need to discuss money -- if you play Go you stay for free if you play a game or two.
