I'm new to all of this, but I like the option to 'show off' my hardware (even when there's no refrigirator-cooling on the CPU :)) - this seems to be the place to do it.
I have one computer at home (Windows ME, 128 MB): AMD Duron(tm) Processor CPU speed: 800.99 MHz CPU features: RDTSC, CMOV, PREFETCH, MMX L1 cache size: 64 KB L2 cache size: 64 KB L1 cache line size: 64 bytes L2 cache line size: 64 bytes L1 TLBS: 24 L2 TLBS: 256 Prime95 version 22.12, RdtscTiming=1 Best time for 256K FFT length: 55.898 ms. Best time for 320K FFT length: 70.729 ms. Best time for 384K FFT length: 92.750 ms. Best time for 448K FFT length: 102.094 ms. Best time for 512K FFT length: 112.731 ms. $450 for a case. *yeep*
I thought my Shuttle SS51G was expen$ive - but it was case/ps/motherboard/heatpipe HS combo, for around $320 (they've gone DOWN since then). I bet it could be one heck of a gaming machine, though. 9-) |

My Athlon XP 2700+ running at stock speed. Anyone have any suggestions into increasing the speed, without overclocking?

Here's one for some grins. I finally pulled it off of doublechecks a few months ago. It's now struggling along at about one trial-factor per month...

You could try getting more aggresive with your memory settings - my XP1800+/KT7A went from about .252 to .237 (10,000,000 digit exponents, 1792K FFT) per iteration just by switching from "sdram 8/10" (AKA slow default) and CAS 3 to "normal" and CAS 2. I tried the "fast" and "turbo" memory settings, but they made the machine very unstable - though they also got the iteration timings down to around .222 at fastest settings. Best bet would be to push the FSB and memory settings as high as you can get them to go, *dropping* the CPU clock multiplier if you have to, while keeping a close eye on the stability of the machine. Prime is VERY memory-intensive - one of the reasons P4s beat Athlons on it (SSE2 is a bigger reason, from what I've seen). |
