Have your heard of the Lincoln Project?
The founders of the Lincoln project have spent over 200 years electing Republicans. But now, they’ve sparked a nationwide movement with a singular mission: To defeat Donald Trump and Trumpism.

The USA of today reminds me powerfully of Goya's Duelo a garrotazos (Duel with clubs/cudgels, AKA "Two peasants fighting"). Clicking on the image gives you much bigger magnification.

That's great and very needed it seems! Thanks.

At the same time you have this: QAnon supporter Marjorie Taylor Greene wins seat in US House elected by 75% of voters. I guess this tells a lot about rural counties of Georgia

But when you see millions of Americans falling into Qanon arms, you start understanding that the number of retards is increasing at an alarming pace. And that is starting to apply to France where more and more people are seeing conspiracies everywhere. I'm glad I took the decision not to have any child.

I wouldn't say that our Cult of Personality comprises retards or morons. IMO they've been brainwashed. Decades of Faux News, etc. They have the capacity to think rationally, they've just turned it off WRT anything involving government or public policy.

I am currently reading Sundown Towns by James Loewen. It's rather depressing, but quite informative. The author reckons the "Nadir" (of race relations) ran from around 1890 to 1940. It looks to me like we may be entering such a period again.

My father was in France not too long after D-Day. He told me that he could hear German armor escaping through the "Falaise Gap." He was twice wounded in battle, the second time severely enough to be sent back home.

He is long gone now, and I still miss him, but I am glad he did not live to see the 2016 election. I am sure he would have felt like he had fought and bled for his country in vain.

You're right of course, that's me being rude because of my frustration, sorry.

Seeing how religion is seemingly gaining ground everywhere, or at least is being used to control people, that may well be the case. Erdogan is a good example of that.

I'm sure many French people have not forgotten how much the USA helped in Europe. I'm certainly thankful and that exacerbates the pain I feel when I see what has become of your country (though of course I do not generalize to all Americans)

The 2006 film explains why that decision may be a fallacy:

I confess that I never saw that film until, like, last month.
(Saw the Cracked youtube video about it - 'is it deep or dumb?')

I have thought of that scene many times since 2008.

The movie Idiocracy is, from what I have read, basically the same story as Kornbluth's. He was not given credit, though. I invite those who have seen the movie to compare its analysis with the following:
"... Mr. Barlow, I understand that you and your lamented had no children?"

"What of it?"

"This of it. You were a blind, selfish stupid ass to tolerate economic and social conditions which penalized childbearing by the prudent and foresighted. You made us what we are today, and I want you to know that we are far from satisfied. Damn-fool rockets! Damn-fool automobiles! Damn-fool cities with overhead ramps!"

"As far as I can see," said Barlow, "you're running down the best features of your time. Are you crazy?"

"The rockets aren't rockets. They're turbojets - good turbojets, but the fancy shell around them makes for a bad drag. The automobiles have a top speed of one hundred kilometers per hour — a kilometer is, if I recall my paleolinguistics, three-fifths of a mile — and the speedometers are all rigged accordingly so the drivers will think they're going two hundred and fifty. The cities are ridiculous, expensive, unsanitary, wasteful conglomerations of people who'd be better off and more productive if they were spread over the countryside.

"We need the rockets and trick speedometers and cities because, while you and your kind were being prudent and foresighted and not having children, the migrant workers, slum dwellers and tenant farmers were shiftlessly and shortsightedly having children — breeding, breeding. My God, how they bred!"

"Wait a minute!" objected Barlow. "There were lots of people in our crowd who had two or three children."

"The attrition of accidents, illness, wars and such took care of that. Your intelligence was bred out. It is gone. Children that should have been born never were. The just-average, they'll-get-along majority took over the population. The average IQ now is 45."
-- Cyril Kornbluth, The Marching Morons (April 1951 GALAXY)
