GPU cloud service from Lambda Labs

I came across a company called Lambda Labs that recently started offering GPU cloud services: https://lambdalabs.com/service/gpu-cloud

At first glance, the 8-GPU instance seems like a good deal compared to a p3.16xlarge instance on AWS. Both have eight Tesla V100 GPUs and roughly the same amount of memory. However, the former has 96 vCPUs as opposed to 64 on AWS and costs "only" $12 per hour as opposed to $24.48 per hour. Anyone know if it's as good as it looks on paper?

I should note a three-year reserved instance on Amazon EC2 is still cheaper in the long run at around $7.90 per hour. But it's hard to imagine anyone (except maybe Ben Delo) spending $200k just for GIMPS.

If someone made it blindingly easy, for us mere computer mortals to use these, I might spin up a few every month or so to hit some priority targets.

Hmmm... If you're serious about that, I could investigate...

If they're providing a similar Notebook environment to Colab and Kaggle, it should be fairly trivial to adapt my existing code to run four (or more) concurrent mfaktc instances.

I've "Contacted an Engineer" to begin at least the research.

Thanks for bringing this offering forward ixfd64. How does this compare to AWS's "spot" currently (haven't been playing with them recently)?

There are other threads about other services. But each one requires more that a duffer's level of expertise and/or wading through a whole thread and several hours of time to work through. Some require the user to know enough linux to get it all working. I posted a new thread that is a call for easy set-ups. A single thread with a single post for each with all of the details needed (but not tons extra info) would work. And having be a sticky in the Cloud Computing forum (not in the blog area) would be good. Part of the issue is having a repository with precompiled code for the specific service and hardware and all of the ancillary scrips and code.
