According to a report, Valve has a working version of the Source Engine running natively on Linux, and the first game that's being demoed on the system is Left 4 Dead 2. Larabel says he saw the game running on a computer with Ubuntu 11.10 installed.

You are slightly exaggerating: Linux is 315 FPS while Windows is 303.4 FPS OTOH what is interesting is that OpenGL is faster than D3D (303.4 vs 270.6).

Yes, but as you point out, that 303.4 is Windows/OGL, not Windows/D3D, which is where I claimed the pants-kicking was.

Linux/OGL vs. Windows/OGL is slightly less of a win, but a win none the less.

Yes. My experience with an old computational project that was only available on Windows as a command-line executable (Xavier Gourdon pi(x)) is that running it through Wine was slightly faster that running on Windows.
