If you see anything on the forum and ask yourself “How did he do that?” you can just click on the quote button and it will show you how he did it.

I had the same question as mfgoode but was afraid to ask.
I have been impressed by the way cheesehead and numbers use this facility. However, the technique described to do it still looks a little like hard work to cut/paste formatting etc its unfortunate that it is not quicker and simpler to achieve these results. I don't think I'm competent enough so will probably continue to limit myself to one or two quotes per posting. |

When I want quotes from multiple messages, I usually hit the quote button in a separate tab (IE users would need to use a separate window), then copy the box from that window to the one where I am composing a message. Occasionally it's easier to build the other box from scratch, and then I use the method described in this thread. |

Yes wblipp I understand the technique you are using.
This is not so bad if the original post you are quoting from is short. If it is a LONG post, clicking quote is ok, but then when you copy/paste you make multiple copies of that long message to begin your edit. Yes most of this will get hacked away with delete key, but in the meantime it is a bit unweildy to scroll up and down through, particularly when you're trying to think of which particular sentences you are commenting on. If it WERE possible, a nicer way would be highlight a portion of a post, click "quote button" which would then place a new partial quote into your currently editing new post. I know it doesn't yet work that way but it would be more user friendly for these kind of multiple quotes, and allow people to grab quote snippets from more than one source post. |

I'd say, the simplest way to break up a single quote into several passages is to write
"
" in front of the quote, copy the "

" part and insert it between the snippits, eventually replacing unnecessary passages. Delete the initial "
" and you're done. Benjamin Last fiddled with by S485122 on 2007-06-28 at 11:04 |
