It seems to me you may not know that you can run -ns and -nc at the same time -- then yafu will automatically sieve only as long as necessary before filtering, no intervention needed from you. In fact, if you run it without any -n* arguments whatsoever, it will just do whatever it thinks it needs to to complete the factorization, and after you've started sieving, it is plenty smart enough to continue sieving and post processing as appropriate. (As Curtis mentioned in the other thread, the part before sieving -- poly and parameter selection -- becomes a bit iffy around the C150-C165 range, but below that it should be fine, and after param selection it will still work beautifully for all but the very largest or most pathological job, which yours certainly is not.)

I don't know why I run each stage separately - from now on I'll try without any -n* arguments

Is it possible to resume progress of linear algebra? I had about 60% of it done and a nfs.dat.chk file, but running with -nc2 starts progress at 0% again.

try msieve -h for the list of flags and what they do.

I've run -nc2 when I'd forgotten about and meant -ncr so many times, it's actually a bit funny how much work I've wasted over the years.

It is a convention to use -h to get help from a program.

We're in the yafu subforum, not msieve... this is something that yafu doesn't really tell you, either in -h or in the docfile... I can very much sympathize with him.

If you ran -nc2 already, then no, unless you have a backup saved in a different location. nfs.dat.chk is overwritten and no longer refers to your "old" run. The size is immaterial to the progress of the job.

Apologies for not including -ncr in the docfile. All I can say is it is a sharp learning curve for all this stuff, and even people that have been doing it for years still type -nc2 when they mean -ncr.
