I'm approaching you guys with a serious concern, and all you are doing is insult me. Not happy.

What, you think that some guy who's essentially just walked in and asked for access to the database will get it?

(I wouldn't call them insults, more just our attempts at having fun.)

Sorry man if you feel so, I feel a little bit bad because I started this with my post, but no one is trying to insult you. You just walked in and asked for database access, which may include also hashes of the passwords, or whatever confidential information - or may not, I have no idea what is inside, and I don't want to know right now, don't try to explain to me, it has nothing to do with the funny part of the situation, which still stays: you are just an unknown guy wandering around my garden for the last five minutes, I may invite you in the house and give you a glass of water, but do you believe that I will give you the combination from my safe box? Or show you its content?

Your post sounds like an old Romanian joke, about one guy going to buy a car, this happens before 1990, and this was the car he wanna buy, during the communist era they were crazy in making stranger and stranger cars, with different facilities, there were not two cars like each other, but modern features like the cars have today were only existent on the expensive foreign cars, so this kind of jokes were very common in that period:

He asks the dealer: "Do you have Dacia with automatic transmission?"
"Yes, we have with automatic transmission, four time four wheel drive, aircond,..." etc, the dealer goes like this for 5 minutes. The buyer is more and more astonished, and with bigger and bigger eyes, and suddenly he realizes that the seller is making fun of him "Are you making fun of me?" he asks angrily.
"Yeah, but who started it?" replies the seller.

TL:DR version: crosspost with Dubslow.

Then get rid of the password hashes. I'm trying to turn
mersennewiki.org

into something that looks like
wiki.mphost.org

You are not being treated any differently than anyone else. Xyzzy often uses that image to convey "Ye do not well to inquire, there be dragons here."

We understand that you want to help.

We ask that you look at things from our side, though.

The old site works and has the fancy math engine.

It has never had any weird exploits or defacings, even though it is running the original software.

People read it even though it is boring looking.

So again, given the choice between something old that works or something new that is (possibly) broken beyond repair, we are inclined to "do no harm".

We suppose your first step is to convince the forum that a change is needed.

Maybe we are jaded but we have been approached numerous times with great ideas but very few people follow through.

Our intended meaning is "We don't know how to answer that, but if we don't reply people will think we are ignoring them, so we'll reply with the kitten picture because we feel like we are the kitten and the question is those weird things chasing it."

I once asked Xyzzy "Why does the sun rise in the East and set in the West."

They replied, "If it ain't broke don't fix it."

Then I said, "But it seems to be a little cold today."

To which they replied, "If its bothering you turn it off and then turn it on again."
